Description
The handsome Blue-Winged Teal ranges from central British Columbia and North Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia, south to Southern California and North Carolina, and spends its winters in Brazil.
The tall grass of prairie country in Canada and the United States offer it nesting areas where the female lays eight to ten cream-colored eggs. After twenty two days she brings forth her young to the ponds, potholes and marshes where they feed on insects, snails, seeds and aquatic plants.
Blue-Wings are rather confiding and make fairly easy targets for hunters. However, most of these ducks head for South America before duck hunting season begins in the United States.
